Portfolio / Book Storage Unit - Greenwich, London
Project description and client review below
Bespoke Book Storage Unit
Greenwich, London
This book storage unit has been designed with functionality and Modern Marquetry inlay in mind. Consisting of 4 equally sized , full extension, drawers (weight rated to 50kgs each) and an elegant roll toped surface, this book storage unit is one of a kind and accommodates a unique stripe of inlay. It’s one of our favourites and can only hope to be commissioned again…? Anyone?
Modern Marquetry specifics: The chosen layout and spacing of the inlaid stripes was down to us to experiment with, whereas Andrew specified the colours and pattern he wanted. Sapele inlay with added wooden tones, blue and yellow pings of colour and a pattern to die for.
Materials: A plywood core with Obeche surround.
Finish: A hard wearing wax oil covers the unit.
Andrew’s Review:
“It was a friend of ours who pointed us in Ravi's direction. We'd recently updated our music system, copying our extensive CD collection onto a huge hard disk and, while I was inclined to keep the CDs just in case, others thought the shelving space they took up would be better used for other things. But there were still too many of the things I just couldn't chuck, and where was I to store them? What we wanted was something that would be functional (storing the CDs) and yet a thing of beauty. Nothing I saw in shops or online fitted the bill. At which point, enter Ravi. What he came up with (slightly wrongly represented on this site as a book-storage system) worked perfectly – the craftsmanship is impeccable, the piece is eye-catchingly beautiful (and often commented on) and the only possible downside to it – its considerable weight – is also testament to its purity: the wood and the workings are of the highest quality. I'd recommend Ravi and Stratum to anyone else wanting something equally special.”
